DIRECTIONS TO NORTH MYRTLE BEACH

North Carolina Secondary highways are some of the best in the Nation, and South Carolina isn't far behind. Therefore, we strongly recommend one of the following approaches to North Myrtle Beach, rather than the traditional and traffic bound US 501. We have used all these routes, find them in excellent shape, light traffic, and occasionally scenic. When you get to North Myrtle Beach, we are at 809 Hwy 17 South, just past the traffic light at 6th Ave. South in the same building as, and next door to, Food Lion.

FROM THE NORTH

#1: South on I-95 and exit to US 74 East (Interstate exit 14). Follow US 74 East to NC Highway 410. Right on NC Hwy 410, go through Chadbourn to US 701. South on US 701, take bypass around Tabor City into SC, then take SC 9 South toward North Myrtle Beach. Intersect with, and follow US 17 South to North Myrtle Beach.

Alternate #2: South on I-95 to first South Carolina Exit. Take SC 9 South to Dillon and continue on SC 9 toward North Myrtle Beach. Intersect with, and follow US 17 South to North Myrtle Beach.

FROM THE WEST AND NORTHWEST

Interstates I-77 or I-26 to Columbia, SC, then East on I-20 to I-95. (Note: this is a well marked route around Florence, follow the signs "To Myrtle Beach") North on I-95 for 3 exits BUT DO NOT EXIT at exit 170 (SC 327) as the sign says. Continue on to EXIT 181 SC 38. Turn right on SC 38 for about 1/2 mile, then bear left on SC 917 to and through Latta and on to Mullins. At Mullins, just after R.R. tracks, SC 917 turns left at traffic light then right at next light, continue on SC 917 and follow for about 20 miles. The highway divides at intersection with SC 410. Turn left on SC 410 here for one mile to intersection with SC 9. Turn right onto SC 9 toward North Myrtle Beach. Follow SC 9 approximately 30 miles to intersect with, and follow US 17 South to North Myrtle Beach.

Alternate from Charlotte Area: Not for the timid, but a time saver (about 3½ hours to N.M.B.) Look at a map for this one. Approximately 5 miles South of SC border (Carowinds Park exit) take SC 160 off I-77 East to US 521. Right on US 521 to Lancaster. Take By-Pass 9 South around Lancaster to SC 9. South on SC 9 thru Pageland and Cheraw to outskirts of Bennettville. At first traffic light turn right. Follow By-Pass to traffic light at McDonald's. Turn right on SC 38 and head south. About 1/2 mile after crossing 1-95, bear left on SC 917 through Latta to Mullins. In Mullins watch for left at light after R.R. tracks, then right at next block. Continue on SC 917 about 20 miles. Road divides at intersection with SC 410. Turn left here for one mile to intersection with SC 9. Turn right onto SC 9 toward North Myrtle Beach. Follow SC 9 approximately 13 miles to intersect with, and follow US 17 South to North Myrtle Beach.
